2022 State of the Township Address
Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I would like to share a few thoughts that highlight our productivity in 2021, and our goals for 2022.
The Township has completed several capital projects including the resurfacing of our basketball courts, tennis courts and hockey courts at Quiqley Park with the diligence of our Public Works employees and contractors, including a new court for Pickleball. The Township also completed the installation of a cost-efficient heating and cooling system at the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Center with grant money the received from the Atlantic County Improvement Authority. Chestnut Avenue was also completed as our 2021 Road program with State DOT Grants.
Construction is almost complete at the Public Works facility on Union Road in East Vineland. This project will finish the second half of the building that was started several years ago. The completion of these projects allows the Township to shift our focus on other areas of opportunity such as identifying efficient and economical upgrades across our community, with cost savings that directly benefit our residents.
Numerous plans to expand our economic footprint are being explored as we begin our work in 2022. These initiatives will build on our recent successes, specifically the grand opening of Tractor Supply on Wheat Road in East Vineland and Dollar General on Tuckahoe Road in Milmay, opening in the next few months. I would like to thank our staff, professionals and local contractors that have made these recent achievements possible.
I am going to try my best to keep these addresses concise and let our accomplishments in the months ahead speak for themselves. I would like this administration to serve Buena Vista Township on a foundation of efficiency, collaboration, and integrity as we lay out our vision for 2022. You work extremely hard for your money, and I would like us to ensure those dollars are being utilized as efficiently as possible within the Township.
The easiest dollar to spend is someone else’s, and I would like us to be ever mindful of the resources we consume. A tax dollar will go further in Buena Vista Township under this administration. This will be an environment that embraces individuals who want to learn, those who want to advance, and those who understand the importance of teamwork, and service to our community. I would like those principles to be hallmarks of this administration.
There will be no shortcuts in our service to Buena Vista Township. We are going to put in the work to identify the issues within our town and come up with comprehensive solutions to address them. I would not ask a single member of our Township staff to perform a task, that I myself am not willing to perform alongside them.
This is an amazing community that is, like the rest of the world, acclimating to the new normal we our living in. While there are certain things that remain out of our control during this pandemic, there are others that we can influence directly. Pride in our community, and respect for one another, are the embodiments of what it means to reside in Buena Vista Township and to possess our values. Those traits are the foundation this administration will use to serve this Township.
I sit here before you completely humbled and immensely honored at the opportunity that lies ahead. I cannot thank you properly for entrusting me to represent our community and to Chair this committee in 2022. None of this is possible without the overwhelming support I have been given, by frankly too many people to name. I will directly thank my incredible wife Catherine, and my three (3) biggest supporters: William, Abigail and Wyatt.
My family and friends have gone above and behind to embrace this this new chapter of my life, and the balancing act it requires. I make the time to attend our meetings and to work on day-to-day Township business because it is important to me. The privilege to serve our town, and to work alongside incredible people completely justifies the time commitment. Getting to see the fruits of our collaboration together, is what drives me, and is what makes this job rewarding.
I would like to personally welcome Ellen Testa and Aaron Krenzer to the Township Committee. I look forward to working with them in the months ahead with the shared goal of advancing our community. I want to personally thank each member of our Township staff for their dedication, commitment and diligence over the last several years as we’ve all done our best to acclimate to the uncertainty of these trying times.
Thank you for joining us this evening as we embark on this journey together. Thank you for the trust you have placed in those of us that sit here before you tonight. Most importantly, I thank each of you for being an essential piece of what makes Buena Vista Township an amazing place to live, to work, raise a family, and to call home.
